Quaheim N. Chandler, 25, was killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Willow Oaks Apartments in South Boston, Virginia. According to investigators, an altercation in the rear parking area on Poplar Creek Street escalated and Chandler suffered a single gunshot wound. He was taken to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, where he died of his injuries. A sidewalk memorial with balloons, candles and chalk messages appeared at Willow Oaks in the days afterward.

Police identified a primary suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for Javante Jordan, described as armed and dangerous, charging him with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A search for Jordan ended on July 24, 2023, when he was located and arrested at a residence on 9th Street in Altavista; officers found him hiding in the attic during a search of the home.
