On the night of November 30, 2023, gunfire erupted outside La Famosa Bar & Liquor on Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and 19-year-old resident Enger Abreu was fatally wounded. The shooting happened at approximately 11:10 p.m.; when police arrived they found two male victims with gunshot wounds. Abreu was taken to a local hospital but died of his injuries. A third male victim was located later at a nearby residence and also hospitalized.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Brunswick Police Department opened an immediate investigation. Authorities say the shooting does not appear to have been random and that there is no ongoing threat to the general public, suggesting the perpetrators may have known the victims. Enger Abreu’s death was the city’s fifth homicide in 2023. If anyone has information or surveillance footage that could help the investigation, please come forward.
