On the evening of May 11, 2023, 57-year-old taxi driver Kofi Addo was called to Rose Street and Sydney Place in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, New Jersey. Addo, who had immigrated to the United States in 2006 and worked days as a bus driver, was driving the taxi to supplement his income when three teenagers met him with the apparent intent to rob him. One of the youths fired a gun, striking Addo; his taxi then crashed into a parked vehicle on Sydney Place. Responding officers found him with a gunshot wound; he was treated at the scene and taken to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives concluded the motive was robbery and say the suspects fled on foot. Three male juveniles were arrested the next day: a 14-year-old from Somerset, a 13-year-old from New Brunswick, and a 13-year-old from Somerset. They were charged with a range of offenses, including murder and robbery, and were prosecuted as juveniles. Is there anyone who knew Kofi Addo or who was in the Somerset area that night who can help provide more details?
