On the evening of March 4, 2024, 24-year-old Myreon Carter was found unresponsive in Caruthersville, Missouri, after sustaining a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

The investigation identified three people charged in connection with Carter’s death. Two Caruthersville men, 28-year-old Jeremy L. Grant and 27-year-old Gary Gale, were charged with first-degree murder. A third man, 26-year-old Antonio D. Rodgers Jr., was charged as an accessory to first-degree murder. Jeremy Grant turned himself in, Gary Gale was arrested, and Antonio Rodgers Jr. was located in Houston, Texas, and extradited to Missouri. Court proceedings were set with arraignments for Grant and Rodgers and a preliminary hearing for Gale.
