A March weekend outside Steedman, Missouri, ended in a fatal shooting after a dispute at Uncle D’s bar. Twenty-six-year-old Orion Quesenberry was shot and killed on March 2, 2024, in the 8000 block of State Road CC following an altercation that began inside the establishment. Callaway County authorities say the bar’s owner, 64-year-old Dennis Klier, exchanged blows with Quesenberry, then after getting him outside engaged in a roughly 20-minute standoff that was captured on a 911 call. During that period Klier repeatedly warned he would shoot if Quesenberry came closer; Klier discharged his weapon once, striking Quesenberry. Investigators reported both men had blood alcohol levels above the legal driving limit.
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office referred the case to Prosecuting Attorney Ben Miller for review. In June 2024 Miller notified the Sheriff’s Office that he would not file charges, concluding the shooting met the legal standard for self-defense because Quesenberry had allegedly assaulted Klier and Klier was on his business premises. What additional details are known to anyone who was at Uncle D’s that night or has information about the confrontation?
