On the night of March 31, 2023, officers responded to the 400 block of South 5th Street in Festus, Missouri, after reports of a disturbance. First responders found 41-year-old Diana M. Hall of De Soto lying unresponsive; she had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Hall was involved in a physical altercation with another person before the shooting. A 40-year-old woman at the scene allegedly admitted to firing the weapon and told authorities she discharged it because Hall was assaulting her. That woman was held for questioning and then released pending further investigation.

Detectives reviewed evidence, including video of the altercation, and the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was evaluating whether to file charges and the validity of the self-defense claim. Does anyone have information about Hall’s movements or contacts in Festus that night?
