On the night of October 12, 2024, 15-year-old Dubar T. Knowles was at a house party on Congress Street in Schenectady when gunfire erupted. Police responded to multiple 11:20 p.m. reports and found a chaotic scene; Dubar was located in the backyard with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead on October 13, 2024.
Investigators determined the same bullet that passed through Dubar also struck a 13-year-old girl on a nearby street; she survived surgery. Authorities say the shooting took place amid feuds and arguments among some attendees and that some individuals at the gathering were reportedly armed. In January 2025 a 16-year-old male, identified by initials D.S., was taken into custody and later indicted on seven counts including second-degree murder, assault, weapons charges, reckless endangerment and tampering; the suspect was on interim probation for a prior weapons offense and was arraigned in the youth part of Schenectady Family Court. Dubar was a freshman at Schenectady High School and was remembered as an athlete who enjoyed basketball and football; his older sister, Medina Knowles, had been a victim of gun violence in 2016.
Does anyone who attended that party or who knew Dubar have information that could help clarify what happened that night?
