On April 25, 2024, deputies responded to a home on Monroe-Orleans County Line Road in Hamlin, New York, and found 72-year-old Deborah Debbie C. Poprawski dead of a gunshot wound. Her husband, 72-year-old John H. Poprawski, was found critically injured at the same scene and taken to the hospital.

Investigators treated the incident as an isolated shooting; no arrests were announced immediately and no suspects have been publicly identified. John Poprawski later died of his injuries on May 3, 2024, leaving both spouses deceased as a result of the same violent event. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate what happened inside the couple’s home.
