Early on April 1, 2024, officers responded to a report of a shooting on Lincoln Pond Road in Elizabethtown, New York. At about 5:31 a.m. they found 40-year-old William E. Ball of Port Henry dead in his vehicle from a gunshot wound. An autopsy later confirmed the death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.
Investigators determined an altercation occurred before the shooting and the suspect was believed to have fled into nearby woods. Law enforcement processing the scene and executing search warrants said the shooting did not appear to be random and there was no ongoing threat to the community. A person of interest was located at a Stewart’s Shop in Elizabethtown and taken into custody; charges were filed in connection with the killing.
