On March 1, 2011, family members in Toccoa, Georgia found 46-year-old Robert Lee Simmons Jr. unresponsive inside his apartment at the Glendale Apartment Complex. An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office determined Simmons had been murdered, and the Toccoa Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

The case went cold for years while Simmons’ family and the community sought answers. Authorities issued a reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution. In April 2021 investigators reported looking into three potential suspects, and Simmons’ sister and daughter worked with a national human rights organization to keep attention on the unsolved death.

The investigation remained active as of early 2024, with law enforcement continuing to seek information that could identify who killed Robert Lee Simmons Jr. If anyone has information about Simmons, his whereabouts before March 1, 2011, or potential witnesses, please come forward.
