Jagana Beyene, 26, was shot and killed during an early-morning robbery at the Citgo Food Mart on Glenwood Avenue in Atlanta on January 20, 2011. Known to friends and family as J or Jack Wizzy, Beyene worked the overnight shift while pursuing filmmaking; his documentary Habeshan Filega about Ethiopians in Atlanta had been released the year before.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m., three men in a red pickup pulled up. When Beyene opened the screened service window, the men demanded money. One fired four to five rounds, striking Beyene in the lower abdomen. The attackers took the cash register drawer and fled; Beyene died after being taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Investigators interviewed two witnesses, reviewed store surveillance and later released sketches of two persons of interest, but no arrests have been publicly announced and the case remains unsolved.
Did anyone in the Atlanta area know Jagana, his work, or have information about that red pickup that could help bring answers?
