Wendell Ronard Barber, a 29-year-old Black man also known as Pumpkin or P, was found dead in a wooded area near Piper Road in Covington, Newton County, Georgia, on September 28, 2010. A hunter discovered the body and called 911 about 6:45 p.m.; investigators estimated he had been deceased for about five days. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted and an autopsy ruled the cause of death homicidal violence of an undetermined nature.
Barber, described as having a transient lifestyle with no known ties to Covington, was last seen on September 21, 2010, in College Park. Detectives canvassed Midtown Atlanta locations he frequented, including Piedmont Park and local nightclubs, but investigators said they quickly hit a brick wall and were unable to identify a suspect. No arrests have been announced and the homicide remains open.
Anyone with information about Barber’s movements in late September 2010 or who may have seen him in College Park or Midtown Atlanta is asked to come forward.
