On the late afternoon of March 9, 2023, 36-year-old Jose Uel Sosa was fatally shot in the driveway of his home on Walbridge Avenue in Bay Shore, New York. Sosa had just returned home and was near the garbage cans on the side of the house when an assailant in a face mask and dressed entirely in black approached and fired multiple shots at close range. A car then reportedly pulled up and a male exited the vehicle, firing additional shots from about 10 to 15 feet. Sosa was taken to South Shore University Hospital but died of his injuries.

The Suffolk County Police Department Homicide Squad says detectives believe Sosa was specifically targeted, though no motive has been released. Police report he had no prior contact with law enforcement. As of late 2024, no arrests have been announced and the investigation remains ongoing. If anyone witnessed the shooting or has information, contact the Homicide Squad or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
