On the night of November 13, 2024, police in Roxboro responded to a reported gunshot at a Foushee Street residence shortly after 11:30 p.m. Inside the home officers found 36-year-old Willie Lawson Jr. of Timberlake deceased. Investigators reported no signs of forced entry and no other injuries; the Roxboro Police Department has classified the death as a homicide and is actively investigating.

Willie Lawson Jr. was born December 14, 1988, in Durham County and is the son of Linda Lawson Jones and the late Willie Lee Lawson Sr. He is survived by his mother, four children—Kadance Lawson, Tiana Pettiford, Sophia Gallizzi, and Zola Tegram—and his sister Takena Lawson, among other relatives and friends.
