On October 22, 2024, three members of the Cox family were found shot to death in their home on PJ McRee Road in Maiden, North Carolina. Victims were 61-year-old Cynthia Marie Cyndi Cox, her husband Charles Kevin Cox, 61, and their daughter Jenna Lynn Cox, 28. Each suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

A 10-year-old boy, Jenna’s son, was in the home during the shootings but escaped without physical injury and ran to a neighbor for help. Authorities quickly identified 27-year-old Issac Nathaniel Christenbury as the primary suspect; he had previously been in a romantic relationship with Jenna and is believed to have acted alone after a dispute between them. Christenbury contacted 911 to turn himself in and was arrested in Lincoln County. He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and held without bond; an initial court appearance was on October 23, 2024, with a probable cause hearing set for November 12, 2024.

The Maiden community has held a candlelight vigil at Malorie’s Place Peer Support Center to mourn and support the surviving family members, and neighbors say they are rallying around the 10-year-old. If anyone knew the Cox family or has information about the events of October 22, please come forward.
