On October 15, 2024, 32-year-old Jefferson Taylor Duggins and 21-year-old Arthur Knight Acosta, both from Fayetteville, North Carolina, were fatally shot near a residence on Yarborough Road in Hope Mills while working for a window cleaning and pressure washing company. A co-worker found the two men deceased at the job site and alerted law enforcement.
Cumberland County authorities identified 42-year-old Desmund Louis Moore of Fayetteville as the primary suspect and sought a white 2020 Volkswagen Passat with North Carolina plate KMY-5114. Moore was located in Surry County on October 16, 2024; a pursuit and confrontation followed, during which Moore fired on officers and fatally wounded a police K-9 named Draco. Officers returned fire and Moore was killed at the scene. Two people connected to Moore were taken into custody: 26-year-old Robert Matthew Gelsomino and Love Anna Smith, the latter charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
Duggins is remembered as a hardworking, caring father of five who was active in local biking and hockey communities. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or described any relationship between Moore and the victims; the investigation remains ongoing. If anyone knew Taylor Duggins or Arthur Acosta or has information about this case, please share what is known.
