Romids A. Miles, 40, was shot and killed in the early hours of September 14, 2024, at 1126 Maple Street in Henderson, North Carolina. Officers arrived about 1:40 a.m. and found Miles with a gunshot wound; despite immediate life-saving efforts he was transported to a medical facility where he later died. Another man, 38-year-old Sylvester Deon Burton, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Investigators say a prior physical altercation between Miles and 33-year-old Darius Donzell Harris likely preceded the shooting. Harris sought treatment for injuries at Granville Medical Center and was taken into custody after his release; he was charged with Miles’s murder and transported to the Vance County Detention Center after bond was denied. The investigation remains ongoing.
