On September 13, 2024, 18-year-old Burlie Dawson Locklear, known as Dawson, was shot and killed while working the night shift at a Waffle House in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The shooting happened about 12:42 a.m. after a customer became agitated and verbally abusive while waiting for his food. The man exited, then turned back and fired two shots into the restaurant, one of which fatally struck Locklear.
Locklear was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he died. He had recently graduated from Hoke County High School and planned to pursue a career in electrical work; family and friends remember his infectious smile and uplifting spirit. Authorities identified 38-year-old Florwer Carlin Lizano as the primary suspect, obtained an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm into an occupied building, and say he remains at large.
Did anyone who knew Dawson or who was in the area that night see the man described as Carlos or Chulo or the dark gray Chevrolet?
