On July 23, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on Lincoln Street in Rockingham and found 17-year-old Damarion Antrez Wall with a gunshot wound. He was given medical attention but died at the scene.

Investigators released images the next day of a suspect and a dark-colored SUV with distinctive features. With help from the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located the vehicle and arrested two people in Raeford, about 40 miles east of Rockingham: 18-year-old Kevin Jonathan Murphy and a 17-year-old male. Both were charged with first-degree murder; Murphy was held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and the juvenile was placed in a juvenile detention facility.

Family and friends held a public viewing on August 3, 2024, and a funeral service on August 4 at the Leak Street Cultural Center in Rockingham, where the family asked attendees not to use cell phones or take pictures.
