On the morning of July 19, 2024, deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Pisgah Road in Asheboro. Officers found 34-year-old Daniel John Jarrell with gunshot wounds; Jarrell died at the scene despite medical attention.
Investigators identified Jarrell’s roommate, 36-year-old Joshua Eric Sanders, as the primary suspect. Sanders was at the home when deputies arrived, was taken into custody without incident, and was charged with felony first-degree murder. He was booked into the Randolph County Detention Center held without bond, with an initial court appearance set for July 22, 2024. Authorities confirmed Jarrell and Sanders shared the residence; no motive has been publicly released and the investigation remains active.
Jarrell had a prior arrest in July 2022 at the same Pisgah Road address on charges including felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury and several misdemeanors. If anyone has information about Jarrell, Sanders, or the events at the Pisgah Road residence, please come forward.
