On June 4, 2024, at about 10:33 p.m., deputies responded to reported gunshots in the 100 block of Dixon Road in Riegelwood, North Carolina. They found 33-year-old Bolivia Monique Williams of Whiteville with multiple gunshot wounds; she was 25 weeks pregnant and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses identified 31-year-old Najee Devon Leach of Riegelwood as the suspect. Leach, who had been in a relationship with Williams, was described as having recently cut off his dreadlocks and was believed to be driving a gold 2006 Subaru Forester with license plate VAK-7395. Authorities considered him armed and dangerous; a manhunt led to his arrest by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office on June 5, 2024, and he was charged with Williams’s murder.

Williams is survived by five children, ages 11 months to 16 years; her mother, who had been caring for three of the children, assumed responsibility for all five. Funeral services were held June 15, 2024, at Central Baptist Church in Whiteville. Does anyone have information about Bolivia’s life, her children, or what happened that night?
