Sherrod Ahmad Person, 19, was found dead on March 16, 2024, at the Gaston Boat Landing on the Roanoke River in North Carolina. Responding officers discovered a partially submerged vehicle and Person’s body nearby; he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators say his body was placed in the river after the shooting and the vehicle was moved into a nearby wooded area in an apparent attempt to conceal it. Reports indicate Person had expressed concerns about a meeting the night before his death, and detectives explored whether he was lured to the site under false pretenses.

In the days after the discovery, Gaston Police, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation arrested 22-year-olds Curtis Ra’heem Sessoms of Tarboro and Marquel Tyreik Hudson of Leggett; both were charged with murder and held without bond. Later developments included the detention of a 17-year-old girl known as Sweets, described as having had a prior relationship with Person and a connection to Sessoms; she was served juvenile petitions and placed in juvenile detention without bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
