Michael Edward Pride Jr., 38, was fatally shot on March 13, 2024, outside a 7-Eleven at Harris Road and Ellenwood Road near the Concord-Huntersville line in North Carolina. Pride, a Huntersville resident and founder of ProjectEx, a nonprofit helping people experiencing homelessness, had reportedly spent several hours in the store restroom. After a store employee, 23-year-old Salverio Antonio Campagna, asked him to leave, an argument broke out and escalated; witnesses said multiple gunshots were heard and Pride was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Campagna was arrested later that day and charged with murder; he was being held without bond at the Cabarrus County Jail. Pride is survived by his wife, Kacie Allen-Pride, and their four children. A GoFundMe called Supporting the Legacy of Michael Pride Jr. was set up to assist the family and continue his work. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing.

If anyone knew Michael, his work with ProjectEx, or witnessed what happened that day, please share information with investigators.
