A dispute over a misplaced cellphone in a Smithfield apartment turned fatal on January 22, 2024. Officers responded about 4:55 p.m. to an apartment on Kay Drive and found 30-year-old Antwane Deshawn Fellows of Clayton had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified 20-year-old Markyse Naijae McCain of Selma as the primary suspect and a first-degree murder warrant was issued, with McCain described as armed and dangerous. A $2,500 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest. McCain surrendered to Smithfield Police on January 29, 2024, and was charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Johnston County Jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing as authorities gather additional details about what led to Fellows’s death.
If anyone has information about Fellows, the events at the Kay Drive apartment, or contacts who might assist investigators, please share what is known.
