On the evening of January 18, 2024, 24-year-old Myles Leonell Batts was found dead inside an overturned vehicle on Zebulon Road near Barham Siding Road, east of Rolesville in Wake County. Witnesses said the vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned; deputies arriving around 9 p.m. found Batts suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene. The Wake County Sheriff’s Office opened an immediate investigation but has not released details about suspects or motive, and no arrests have been announced.
Batts was born January 29, 1999, in Raleigh and is remembered by family and friends as a devoted son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend who loved singing. Funeral services included a public visitation on February 3, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home in Wilson, a celebration of life at L.N. Forbes Tabernacle the next day, and burial at Rest Haven Cemetery. If anyone has information about what happened that night, the Sheriff’s Office is asking to be contacted.
