Duane S. Quarles Jr. was shot and killed on December 21, 2023, near Hope Mills, North Carolina. Deputies answered reports of a shooting about 8:40 p.m. in the 5400 block of Miranda Drive and found the 33-year-old Plainfield, New Jersey resident unresponsive outside a residence with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Quarles Jr. was born March 23, 1990, and is survived by triplet sons, a daughter, his parents Duane S. Quarles Sr. and Marlene Jackson, two sisters, his maternal grandmother, and a maternal great-grandmother. He owned Tweaklife, LLC, and had been a member of the Greater Refuge Church of Christ.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating. No arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and authorities have not disclosed a motive or further circumstances.
