Zachary Taylor Locklear, 26, of Maxton, North Carolina, was fatally shot on December 14, 2023, at 79 Dreamcatcher Drive in Pembroke. Robeson County Sheriff’s deputies found Locklear with a gunshot wound after responding to reports of a shooting around 7:00 p.m. He was taken to UNC Health Southeastern Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

The next day, December 15, 2023, 26-year-old Quinton Robert Brayboy of Lumberton surrendered to authorities and was charged with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon within an enclosure to incite fear in connection with Locklear’s death. At the time of the shooting, Brayboy was out on bond for a separate second-degree murder charge from March 2023 in the death of 44-year-old Coleman Fields in Lumberton. Brayboy is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond while the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division continues its investigation.
