On November 12, 2023, in Benson, North Carolina, 25-year-old Tracy Marshawn Davis was fatally shot at his home on South Pleasant Coates Road. The shooting happened about 6:15 p.m. after an argument began when Davis asked his 15-year-old brother to clean his room; the argument turned physical and, during the tussle, the younger brother allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Davis. Davis was driven to a nearby fire station by a friend and roommate and then taken to WakeMed Hospital, where he died.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office interviewed family members at the scene and took the 15-year-old into custody; his name has not been released because of his age. He has been charged on a juvenile petition for murder and is held in secure custody. Tracy Davis, born June 9, 1998, is remembered by family as a loving husband, father, son, and brother and is survived by his wife Jasmine Davis and their son Kayden. The investigation remains ongoing.
