On October 26, 2023, Alfonza Jeffers, 73, was one of five people killed in a mass shooting at a residence in the 10300 block of Garland Highway in Sampson County. Deputies from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office responded about 12:41 a.m. after a 911 call from someone who had last spoken with a resident around 11 p.m. the prior evening. The five victims — Jeffers, Dagoberto Lopez, Hector Salazar Lopez, Lamar Williams, and Jamie Lynn Rowland (also known as Jamie Thompson) — were found in different rooms of the house.
Investigators initially treated the attack as targeted. The property had been under scrutiny by the Sheriff’s Office for possible drug-related activity before the shootings, and officials indicated the murders were likely connected to an apparent robbery attempt targeting drugs and drug proceeds at the home. The event was described as unprecedented in the county’s history.
Who knew Alfonza Jeffers or the other victims and might have information about the night of October 25–26, 2023?
