On October 25, 2023, five people were found shot to death inside a home on Garland Highway in Clinton, North Carolina. One of the victims was 47-year-old Jamie Lynn Rowland, also known as Jamie Thompson, a Clinton resident. The other victims were Alfonza Jeffers, 73, of Clinton; Dagoberto Lopez, 33, of Garland; Hector Salazar Lopez, 39, of Garland; and Lamar Williams, 58, of Rose Hill.

Deputies from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office arrived after a 911 call shortly after midnight and discovered the victims in different rooms, each suffering fatal gunshot wounds. Sheriff Jimmy Thornton described the residence as known for illegal drug activity and characterized the killings as a targeted, drug-related shooting. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward.

In October 2024 two Sampson County men were indicted on federal charges alleging a conspiracy to rob the occupants of the Garland Highway residence that resulted in the firearm discharge and the five deaths. The indictment names Robert Williams, 31, also known as Double Tap Drew, and Derek George, 35, known as Pete, on counts including drug trafficking, Hobbs Act robbery, and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime; Williams is also charged as a felon in possession of a firearm. A third person faced illegal gun possession charges but was not charged in the killings.
