On October 1, 2023, in Rocky Point, North Carolina, 50-year-old William Allen Ganey Jr. was found on a front porch with a single gunshot wound to the chest and later died from his injuries. Deputies and medical personnel attended the scene; Ganey succumbed despite immediate medical attention. The Pender County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation and identified 47-year-old Kenneth Michael Broxton as the primary suspect.

After consultation with the Pender County District Attorney, Broxton was charged with one count of voluntary manslaughter on October 4, 2023. The shooting reportedly occurred at Broxton’s residence, and he was arrested and taken into custody.
