On September 7, 2023, 18-year-old Jalyric Semaj O’Bryan Jones was found dead at the scene of a shooting on the 1100 block of Old Red Springs Road in Maxton, North Carolina. Deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 12:51 a.m. The shooting is described as part of a botched robbery attempt; a second victim was shot and later located on the 2000 block of Red Hill Road and taken to a medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.
By September 8, three Maxton residents — Micah McIntosh, 21, Kinajhe Graham, 19, and Warren McEachin Jr., 19 — had been arrested and charged with murder and a string of related offenses including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. A fourth suspect, Dekwonte Campbell, 25, was reported as still at large and wanted on the same charges. Jones’ vehicle was taken from the scene and later recovered.
Jalyric Jones was buried at McLeod Cemetery; funeral services were held. Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Dekwonte Campbell is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
