Antwone Durell Chisholm was found dead from a gunshot wound outside his home on Kentucky Drive in Garner, North Carolina, on May 8, 2023. He was 34 and had recently proposed to his 27-year-old fiancée, Patee Lachelle Bell, during a trip to Puerto Rico; the couple had just returned from that engagement celebration when Chisholm was killed.
Garner Police arrested Bell and 30-year-old Howard Lee Covington Jr., charging both with Chisholm’s murder. Investigators say messages recovered from Bell’s phone suggest possible premeditation, including instructions to avoid detection and references to timing the plan around the couple’s return. A third person, 28-year-old Jonte Nichole Bell, was charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly trying to discard the firearm in a trash compactor.
Family members described Chisholm as a devoted father of six and a grandparent and voiced shock that his fiancée had been arrested. The relationship between Covington and the couple remained unclear to the family. Does anyone have information about possible motives or the connections among the people charged?
