On the morning of November 17, 2024, officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 300 block of Logan Avenue in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Responding police found 31-year-old Jesse Michael Grover suffering from a gunshot wound; he died at the scene. A 25-year-old man from the same duplex, Portez Smith, was present when officers arrived and was taken into custody.

Witnesses said Smith confronted Grover on the front porch, accused him of being a pedophile and demanded he leave Logan Avenue. The confrontation escalated and Smith produced a firearm and shot Grover in the chest. Smith later admitted the shooting during police interviews and has been charged with criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license; he is being held at the Mercer County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Grover was a Tier 1 registered sex offender, convicted in 2015 on charges of corruption of minors, and listed as living at the Logan Avenue address. Born in Houston and raised in Greenville, he was adopted at age two and is survived by his spouse Tabitha A. Barr-Grover, parents, siblings, step-children and step-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service was held November 23, 2024, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory in Sharon.
