On July 3, 2024, at about 6:25 a.m., 22-year-old Jamie Reed of Philadelphia was fatally shot outside an apartment building at 83 S. State Road in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Police say six males got out of a parked silver car, chased Reed while he was on the phone, and fired multiple shots as he ran along Penarth Avenue. Reed collapsed and died on the patio of an 88-year-old homeowner on the 7100 block of Penarth Avenue.
Neighbors described a typically quiet block shaken awake by gunfire; one resident mistook the shots for fireworks and another found a stray bullet had struck a porch grill. Investigators say the attack appears tied to a dispute in Philadelphia that spilled into Upper Darby and that the suspects may have lured Reed to the scene. Police are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the six suspects and their getaway vehicle. No arrests have been announced.
If anyone saw activity around Penarth Avenue or has footage from the early morning of July 3, please contact Upper Darby police with information.
