Harold ’BJ’ Lee Grisham III, 37, was fatally shot on September 4, 2024, at the home he shared with his girlfriend near Old Leipers Creek Road in Columbia, Tennessee. The rural property became the scene of an immediate investigation after the shooting; the exact motive remained under inquiry, though some friends and acquaintances suggested a possible love triangle.

Authorities identified 46-year-old Michael Van Dobbs as the primary suspect. Dobbs had an extensive Maury County criminal history spanning about 21 years with 44 prior charges, including theft, burglary, drug offenses, child endangerment and assault. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation added him to its Most Wanted list, warned he was armed and dangerous, and offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to his arrest.

A multi-agency manhunt ended when Dobbs was spotted on September 13, 2024, near the Garrison Creek Trail Head on the Natchez Trace Scenic Trail in Williamson County; deputies arrested him without incident. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail and later transferred to Maury County to face a criminal homicide charge in Grisham’s death.

If anyone knew Harold, his movements that week, or has information about what led to the shooting, please come forward.
