On July 6, 2024, at about 8 a.m. Knoxville police responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 2700 block of Linden Avenue in the Park City neighborhood. Officers found 32-year-old Matthew Alexander Walker with a gunshot wound; Knoxville Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures but Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings by the KPD Homicide Unit indicate a domestic dispute among family members inside the home. During the altercation Walker reportedly brandished a firearm and another individual present shot him. That person remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators; no other injuries were reported. Detectives have identified and interviewed the individuals involved. No charges have been filed and the investigation remains ongoing; the case will be forwarded to the Knox County District Attorney General’s Office when complete.
Walker was a 2010 graduate of Austin-East High School, worked for Knoxville Area Transit, and was baptized and raised attending Canaan Baptist Church with his maternal grandmother. He is survived by his parents, children, siblings, and many family and friends who loved him dearly.
