Claude Sampson E. Johnson Jr., 55, was shot and killed after responding to an alarm at his business, Anderson Automotive and Towing, on Cooper Street in Knoxville on May 18, 2024.

After the shooting at the business, Scruggs reportedly took Johnson’s gun and went to a nearby location on North Broadway, where he shot and killed a second man, later identified as Dennard Darren Davis. Scruggs was arrested and charged in connection with both fatal shootings; records show he had been in custody four days earlier on an aggravated criminal trespassing charge.

Johnson’s family and friends remembered him as a beloved gentle giant, called Pop-Pops by his grandchildren, a devoted family man and business partner. Does anyone who knew Claude or worked in that neighborhood in May 2024 have information that could shed light on what happened that night?
