On October 1, 2023, Knox County Deputy Tucker Blakely, 29, and a partner responded to a domestic disturbance at a Denver Lane residence in Knoxville. Deputies entered the master bedroom where 30-year-old Matthew Logan Rose was located; an exchange of gunfire followed. Blakely was struck and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he died of his wounds on October 2, 2023. Rose was killed by return fire at the scene.
An autopsy found Rose’s blood alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit and that he had marijuana, cocaine, and several prescription medications in his system. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation completed its probe and the District Attorney concluded the second officer’s use of deadly force was justified; no charges were filed. Rose had been charged with domestic violence in Michigan several months earlier. Blakely’s widow, Katarina Blakely, later filed a $10 million negligence lawsuit against Rose’s widow.
Did anyone in Knoxville have contact with either deputy or with Matthew Rose in the days before October 1, 2023?
