Nicholas Moody, 26, of Apple Valley was fatally shot on October 28, 2024, at about 6:20 a.m. in Diamond Bar. The shooting occurred at a Park & Ride near Pathfinder Road and the northbound 57 Freeway after a verbal altercation with another person in a nearby parked vehicle. The assailant fired on Moody, who then tried to flee by driving west on Pathfinder Road but lost control and crashed into a concrete wall over the 57 Freeway. Moody was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene; a passenger in his car was not injured.

The suspect fled in a white SUV. Later the same day law enforcement, including SWAT, surrounded a La Verne residence and—after a prolonged standoff—took the suspect into custody. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or specified charges. Preliminary reports mention road rage as a possible factor, but officials have not confirmed a motive. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol are continuing the investigation and asking anyone with information to come forward to assist.
