On October 16, 2024, at about 11:45 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting on the 900 block of Fickewirth Avenue in La Puente. They found 49-year-old Panfila Gabriela ’Bunny’ Gallegos with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead in the early hours of October 17, 2024. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the chest and classified it a homicide.

Authorities have not released information about suspects or arrests. Family and friends remember Panfila as a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend; a GoFundMe and an online memorial have been set up in her name.
