The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department opened a homicide investigation after his body was discovered and reported his silver 2006 Toyota Corolla, California plate 5VSW902, missing; detectives say the vehicle is a crucial piece of evidence.

No arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and the car has not been recovered. Mejia and his wife Camille had recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary; family and friends have organized a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses and living costs.
