Tyler Elijah Simmons, 21, of Magalia, California, was fatally shot on September 22, 2024, at about 2:20 a.m. The shooting happened inside the attached garage of a residence in Paradise owned by the brother of 32-year-old Oroville resident Kindall Alan Woodward. Witnesses reported an argument between groups connected to Simmons and Woodward before Simmons entered the garage and was shot.

Woodward was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting Simmons, then released from custody on September 25, 2024, while the Paradise Police Department and the Butte County District Attorney’s Office continued their investigation. Authorities said additional information was needed to evaluate possible claims of self-defense and defense of home before any charges would be filed. The investigation into the circumstances of Simmons’ death remains ongoing.
