On the morning of July 16, 2024, South Lake Tahoe police responded to a shooting on the 2000 block of Eloise Avenue and found 41-year-old Dennis Crowe with multiple gunshot wounds. Crowe was taken to Renown Hospital in Reno in critical condition. A nearby 32-year-old man suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was treated at Barton Hospital and released.
A 28-year-old suspect, Christopher Guzman, was located nearby and initially booked on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. After Crowe was removed from life support and died on July 22, 2024 following organ donation, prosecutors upgraded charges to include homicide plus multiple counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and making criminal threats with intent to terrorize. Guzman is in custody at the El Dorado County Jail awaiting arraignment. Investigators say the victims and Guzman were known to each other and detectives continue to work with witnesses and Crowe’s family.
If anyone has information about what happened on Eloise Avenue that morning, please contact the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
