On July 15, 2024, 35-year-old Edward Shi was fatally shot at his workplace, 8Loop Trans, a logistics company in the 18600 block of Gale Avenue in the City of Industry, California. Deputies arrived shortly before 9 a.m. and found Shi with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial accounts say Shi was specifically targeted.
Authorities identified a person of interest as 30-year-old Kevin Paredes, a former 8Loop Trans employee who had been terminated within the two weeks before the shooting. Paredes was detained near the scene without incident; a vehicle linked to him yielded additional firearms. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into the Twin Towers Correctional Facility with bail set at $2 million. Shi lived in Rowland Heights and had worked at 8Loop Trans since July 2022; his LinkedIn profile lists proficiency in English and Chinese.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Did anyone who worked with Shi or knew his routine notice anything unusual in the weeks before July 15?
