On April 10, 2024, at about 10:10 p.m., 62-year-old Joseph Daniel Barbalinardo Jr. was shot and killed at a residence on Long Barn Road near Circle Drive in Long Barn, California. Deputies from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office found him inside the home deceased from gunshot wounds. A second person at the scene suffered gunshot injuries and was airlifted to a hospital; that person’s identity has not been released.

A 69-year-old Long Barn resident, James West, was detained at the scene and later arrested and booked into the Dambacher Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. The Sheriff’s Office has not released a motive, and the investigation remains active. Barbalinardo Jr. was born April 27, 1961, in Vermont to Joseph and Stella Barbalinardo; funeral services were held April 26, 2024, in Livermore.
