Ryan Dazzi was a 25-year-old White man from Barstow, California who died after a violent confrontation in the early morning hours of February 10, 2024. He went to a home in the 1200 block of Joshua Tree Drive and, according to court proceedings, had returned twice that night; the first visit around 1 a.m. included throwing a rock through a window. About an hour later he returned and encountered 50-year-old Patrick Dull, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, who was boarding up the damage.

During the second encounter the defense said Dazzi made threatening statements and charged at Dull on the front porch. Dull fired a single shot that struck Dazzi in the abdomen. Dull called police; officers found Dazzi unarmed near the front door. He was taken to Barstow Community Hospital and then airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he died from his wound.

Patrick Dull was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and manslaughter. His attorney argued lawful self-defense and defense of family; the trial heard that Dull is a disabled veteran with PTSD from 24 years in the military. On April 22, 2026, a jury found Dull not guilty on all charges. The specific reason Dazzi went to the house that night was not made clear during the trial.

Did anyone who knew Ryan or saw activity on Joshua Tree Drive that night come forward with information?
