Luis Angel Gaona, 24, was shot to death around 12:07 a.m. on February 8, 2024, while walking in the 9400 block of Van Nuys Boulevard in Panorama City. A white Cadillac sedan pulled up, two people exited and opened fire, striking Gaona multiple times. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Los Angeles Police Department opened a homicide investigation and asked the public for help identifying the suspects; no arrests have been reported and the assailants remain unidentified. The motive is under investigation. Gaona’s family and friends set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs and support his young daughter, Stella, describing him as a devoted father, son, uncle, and brother. His record shows prior arrests in 2020 (burglary and grand theft auto, and an August 2020 arrest on undisclosed warrants or holds) and a November 2022 arrest for grand theft auto.
