Steven Duane Colter, 51, was the night manager at Sleepy Hollow Cabins and Hotel in Crestline when he was shot in the parking lot in the early hours of October 25, 2023. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition and died of his injuries on October 26, 2023.
Two people were seen leaving the scene shortly after the shooting. Authorities stopped a white BMW and took 43-year-old Brian Serrano of Sun City into custody on suspicion of attempted murder; 46-year-old Jaime Rojas of Santa Ana was injured and hospitalized, later facing charges. Prosecutors updated the charges against both men to first-degree murder as the investigation continued under the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail.
Colter lived in Crestline and worked at the Sleepy Hollow; an online memorial has been created by friends and family. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Twin Peaks Station or submit an anonymous We-Tip. Did anyone in the Crestline area see activity at the Sleepy Hollow Cabins that night?
