On September 13, 2023, deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a residence near 166th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in unincorporated San Leandro. Officers established a perimeter and attempted contact; about 15 minutes later they heard a single gunshot from inside the home. When deputies entered, they found 54-year-old Gina Minerva Love deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
Carlos Smith, who was inside the house with Love, exited the residence and surrendered to authorities. Investigators allege Smith pistol-whipped Love and held her against her will before the shooting. Smith was arrested at the scene and charged with murder, making criminal threats, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Sheriff’s Office described the incident as isolated and not a continuing threat to the public.
Does anyone have information about Love or this address that could help clarify what happened that morning?
